Designed and built in Angus, Scotland
Leading vegetable handling equipment manufacturer, Tong Engineering is pleased to announce the appointment of ScanStone potato systems as the company’s new approved dealer for Scotland.
As part of the company’s continued focus on providing the highest levels of customer service, sales and aftersales support, Tong Engineering has confirmed its partnership with ScanStone in order to strengthen its relationship with potato and vegetable growers throughout Scotland.
Located just outside Forfar, Angus, ScanStone is a family-owned and operated business, designing and manufacturing a wide range of soil preparation equipment, built for UK and export markets. “ScanStone has an established reputation within the industry for quality, reliability and excellent service,” says Edward Tong, Managing Director at Tong Engineering.
“Our customer base is very similar to Scan stone’s, both in the UK and overseas, and there are certainly some exciting opportunities for our two businesses to work together in Scotland; developing a complete offering from soil preparation through to crop handling and processing, whilst maximising our product and operational synergies”
“We have a very active existing customer-base in Scotland and we work closely with growers and fresh pack companies of all sizes from North to South,” explains Edward. “In appointing ScanStone as a Tong approved dealer, we are confident this can continue to grow. Their ongoing communication with our customers in Scotland will allow us to be even more responsive to any sales, service and spare parts requirements our customers have.”
Of the new appointment, William Skea, Sales and Service Director at ScanStone said “We are very pleased to be chosen as Tong’s new approved dealer for Scotland. We have always respected Tong equipment for its renowned quality and progressive design. Adding Tong’s post-harvest product range alongside the ScanStone range of in-field equipment will bring customers a complete solution, and we very much look forward to working together to make Tong and ScanStone potato systems the number one choice throughout the country.”
“Our dedicated sales and service teams are experienced in understanding grower’s requirements, and as main Tong parts stockist for Scotland too, we aim to bring a very valuable service to Tong customers,” says William.
The new Tong dealership at ScanStone will cover sales, service and spares for Tong’s complete range of potato and vegetable handling equipment including advanced grading, cleaning, washing, polishing and box handling systems for seed and main crop potatoes and vegetables.
“Scotland remains a very high priority region within our company’s growth strategy, and this latest addition to our approved dealer network represents our focus on ensuring the very best customer experience,” adds Edward. “We look forward to building upon our existing customer relations in Scotland and developing new connections through this new partnership.”
The latest addition to the ScanStone product range is the all new Osprey 3 and Osprey 5 models. These machines are purpose built windrowers. Unlike converted harvesters they have low drops throughout the machine and just enough cleaning to extract haulm and remove earth with 0% damage on all windrowers tested so far.
Furthermore, test and results have shown there to be less damage in the harvested crop when using a windrower due to there being less rollback and generally a fuller harvester.
Trailers spend half as much time alongside the harvester aswell resulting in a generally more efficient lifting program.

PONTESBURY TRACTORS LTD APPOINTED NEW DEALER IN SHROPSHIRE

Shropshire machinery dealership Pontesbury Tractors continues to expand adding three new franchises to its list of equipment on offer and increasing its service and sales facilities with additional staff.
Having opened its doors in January 2012 at Malehurst Industrial Estate, Minsterley with a small team of six there are now 16 staff and the site has been extended to make room for a larger workshop and more parts and spares.
The team at Pontesbury Tractor are dedicated to offering a professional and efficient service, providing sales and support for the complete range of Case IH tractors and harvesting machinery along with a wide list of other equipment. And despite these difficult times for the agricultural industry the business has solidified its position in the market and continued to grow.
“We have a young team willing to go the extra mile to provide an excellent service and we have a lot of loyal customers who believe in us and trust our products and services,” said Paul Hamer, a founding director of the firm along with Chris Edwards and Chris Sankey.
This reputation for customer care and service has not gone unnoticed by the machinery trade and ten months ago Pontesbury were awarded main dealership franchise for Amazone and it has just added ScanStone and Opico Heva to its list of dealerships.
“We are delighted to increase our portfolio with these major franchises and that the manufacturers have the confidence in our reliability to back us,” said Dave Edwards who joined Pontesbury Tractors last year having spent many years locally in the agricultural machinery trade.
Pictured are 4 ScanStone destoners, 2 ScanStone 5.4m bed tillers and a 2 row Miedema belt planter, all working in Shropshire
“As sole dealership for Amazone in Shropshire we are taking on the service and warranty work for all Amazone equipment and we have invested in specialised equipment and training to ensure our service engineers can work on all machines and we stock a an extensive range of spare parts.
“Farmers can contact us for warranty work even though they might not have bought their equipment from us,” he explained.
Amazone specialises in fertiliser spreaders, seed rills, cultivators, air seeders and sprayers and Pontesbury Tractors has just sold a Cenius TX seven metre cultivator – only the second to be sold in the country and indeed county as the first one was sold in Shropshire too.
“Amazone cultivators and drills are real workhorses, the perfect choice for farmers trying to reduce crop establishment’s costs,” Dave said.
ScanStone is another manufacturer of quality equipment, renowned for its flagship product the de-stoner, with the bed maker and bed tiller closely following. The most recent development is the vegetable windrower which is primarily used for windrowing potatoes. This increases harvesting capacity by up to 70 per cent and decreasing the harvesting maintenance bill
The destoner has also advanced, now with leading technology in the open front system, having hydraulically controlled front discs and a specially designed front digger web the machine can operate well in varying conditions.
Since demonstrating its products in Shropshire in 2014/2015 ScanStone has supplied Heal Farms with six of their products – four ScanStone destoners and two ScanStone 5.4m bed tillers. These machines have been a step forward for manager Peter Jones and owner Tony Heal, allowing them to go from using nine older Reekie machines to four full time ScanStone destoners. Heal Farms has now purchased another ScanStone 5.4m bed tiller for the current 2016 season.
“Heal Farms has the most ScanStone equipment in Shropshire right now but there are many others with machines as well, this is why ScanStone is proud to announce its new dealer for this area; Pontesbury Tractors,” said William Skea of ScanStone.
“Pontesbury tractors will be looking after the ScanStone range from now on and also there is a stock of parts in their depot to look after existing machines.
Another new dealership is Opico Heva which has a range of grassland and arable equipment including grass harrows, sward lifters, toppers, cultivators, combi discs and a good range of mobile grain driers to suit all farm sizes.
“Farmers should also consider our range of MX (Chilton) loaders which can be fitted to an existing tractor to do loading work at the fraction of the cost of a new telehandler,” Dave added.
